Falconry Services

Eric is an experienced falconer with over 15 years experience. During this time he have trained and flown a great variety of birds of prey, kestrels, sparrowhawks, redtail hawks, harris hawks, goshawks, and peregrine falcons. Along the way he have rehabilitated injured wild birds back to nature. My passion for falconry has inspired me to establish Kingdom Falconry and share my knowledge and insights with you.

Flying display of various species of birds of prey
At the flying demonstrations you will see many different birds of prey and will witness their free flight, which can include Golden Eagle, Barn Owls, Harris Hawks,  and Peregrine Falcon.  The falconer talks about the bird’s characteristics, habitats and interesting or notable facts. The falconer calls a bird of prey out of the trees/perches, or to a swung lure simulating a wild raptor chasing its quarry in the wild.  Shows typically last for 45 min. up to one hour, but can be tailored to suit particular requirements.

We do Flying Displays, Hawk Walks and Owl Encounters at Crag Cave (and other locations, such as hotels, schools, and for special occasions).

The real falconry experience (hunting with birds of prey)– The real falconry experience is a day (or half day) of action pursuing wild game with our falcons and hawks. This is the true art of falconry – a truly memorable and breathtaking falconry experience. This activity is offered as a half day (€150 per person) or full day experience (€250 per person). If you are based at a hotel, guest house or B&B and would like to be collected from your accommodation, we would be happy to facilitate you for a supplementary charge. Lunch can also be arranged.

The real falconry experience is offered subject to hunting seasons and/or the availability of suitable game or quarry species and the weather

The peregrine falcon is the fastest living creature on earth and has been recorded at over 250 miles an hour – our tiercel peregrine is regularly catching the swift and elusive wild snipe on local boglands -which relatively few falconers have achieved - a truly spectacular experience as the falcon stoops from great heights in pursuit of this extremely challenging game bird.  Our Goshawk is catching crows, rabbits and pheasant.

The following clips give a sample of  the 'snipe hawking' experience (apologies for quality – falconer was filming while handling dog and falcon simultaneously) – a red setter is used to point or set on the snipe; the falcon is released and is trained to mount high in the sky – it climbs higher and higher until it is in position over the dog; the dog is then given a command to flush the game and then the peregrine stoops dramatically in pursuit.

Bird of Prey Appearances/Photographic Opportunities – the falconer can bring an eagle owl, barn owl, hawk or falcon to join a group, attend an event or party. The instructor will talk about the bird in close proximity to the group with opportunities for some to handle the bird or have their photo taken alongside the bird. Birds may also be used for television commercials and films; photographic clubs; etc.

Corporate Entertainment – We can create a programme for your needs and can offer a ‘hands-on’ interactive falconry display event. This event can be modified for cub scouts, walking groups, camera clubs, artist groups, etc.

We have a mobile falconry display service that can travel nationwide and have previously attended private bookings at Lismore Castle (County Waterford), Ballyseede Castle Hotel (Tralee) and the Newcastlewest WinterFest (County Limerick).

Avian Pest Control – We can use our trained birds of prey to deter pest bird species such as seagulls, pigeons and starlings at landfill sites, waste transfer stations, sports stadiums, grain stores, food processing plants, etc.  The very presence of a raptor in the air can act as a deterant to pest species and as such is an environmentally friendly form of pest control.  Call us to discuss your business needs and get a quote.
